the physical and mental state resulting from intoxication through alcohol – i.e. consumption of ethanol at a faster rate than the inividual is able to metabolise (approximately one unit – 10ml – of alcohol per hour). Symptoms may include slurred speech, blurred vision, impaired balance and co-ordination, confusion, disinhibition and “beer-goggles”.
